Having some fun in the world of "The Pitch."
Doing some of these, like the early movie posters and the very first of the book covers, was good practice. If I wasn't sure how to create "that look" I was after, I went in search of the tool, the technique, and experimented. Especially with the 500LA, doing works like these was great for learning to see things, like how reflections appear, or how light angles have to work on all the elements. Whether or not I succeeded then or now these "learning moments" still inform my work.
Historical note: "Herrscher uber Raum und Zeit" really was an ad line used by Mercedes-Benz in the 1930's.
The 500LA began as a 1934 Mercedes Kompressor, and after a lot of rumination over what to add or subtract, eventually became the LA - the "luft auto," the "air car." I had done a modified Auburn, which can be seen in with the over-heated radiator while the LA floats away, and was inspired by the streamlined coach-work to attempt a flying car model. As there wasn't another Auburn to play with, I went with the Mercedes instead. Though I haven't put the name Mercedes up on the site, you can still see the radiator detail with that distinctive three-point star on the finished vehicle.
