The pistols that Keegan and Riordan carry on these book covers are wooden. Literally, they are made of wood, by my grandfather over 20 years ago. Scaling up photos from a book of small arms, he proceeded to lay-out, cut, assemble and finish replicas of both the 1911A1 Colt (an aviators' short frame version) and the 1898 Mauser. The man could do some amazing things in his garage workshop.
The futuristic antique blasters that the Keegan carries on the first three of her covers, and that both Keegan and Riordan have later in their paired series, are a prop that I fashioned a few years ago. As I was inspired to create a flying car model after the fashion of model builders from ILM (the 500LA), so I was likewise inspired to create a prop "blaster rifle" as the prop armourers had done for so many science fiction films such as Star Wars. More on that prop can be found here: The Mark IX.

The stairway on the cover of Breaking Down is the only one of these three Manahatta images that is not actually from New York; instead, it's in the New Jersey Transit station at South Orange, NJ.
